Sweet Potato Fasting Sabzi


Maha Shivratri is a Hindi festival devoted to God Shiva. Celebrated with pomp in all over India, this festival is observed by chanting Shiva’s name, fasting and visiting temples, which are decorated with zillions of colorful lighting.

This sweet potato and potato is a fasting recipe, quite simple with a few ingredients. It is packed with carbohydrate, fiber, and protein which keeps you full for a long time and thus makes it an ideal choice for fasting. To make it healthier, you can use only sweet potato instead of both and enjoy it as a salad or sabzi.


1 cup Sweet potatoes

1 cup potatoes

2 tsp clarified butter/Ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp lemon juice

Rock salt to taste

2/3 cup water or as per your requirement

Preparation method:

Heat ghee in a pan and adding cumin seeds to it, let it splutter.

Add sweet potato and potato to it, sprinkle rock salt as per requirement and sauté it.

Further pour water to it, sauté it and put a lid on it.

Keep stirring intermittently and once potatoes are about to cook, add red chili powder, lemon to it.

Mix well and if needed, add a little water if you want gravy like consistency.

Let it simmer for 2 minutes and enjoy sweet and sour nutrients packed sabzi. It can be enjoyed alone or with Rajgira roti.
