This homemade brown bread recipe is made using 100% whole wheat flour and honey instead of sugar. It doesn’t require more kneading and can be easily made. It’s resting period is more, but it’s worth waiting because it is freshly baked bread without preservatives and harmful additives. I have used the same bread for making bruschetta. Brown bread Ingredients:
For 1 loaf of bread
2 cup flour
1 cup water (It may vary)
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt or as per your taste
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoon of honey
1 teaspoon of dry active yeast
Butter for spreading.
Take 1 cup of warm water in a bowl. (Water should not be hot, otherwise, it will kill yeast and your dough may not rise)
Add dry active yeast and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to it.
Mix it well so that yeast dissolves well to give a uniform solution.
Let it rest for around 15 minutes or till the solution becomes frothy. (If you don’t get a frothy solution, then don’t proceed further and make another batch or bring a new packet of Yeast).
Then take whole wheat flour in a large bowl, add salt, honey, and Olive oil to it.
Mix well the mixture.
Add activated yeast water to it and start mixing the dough with the spatula till it comes together. No need to knead the dough with your hands.
Make your mould ready by greasing it with oil.
Then grease your hands a little bit, take the dough from bowl, give a little shape and transfer it to the greased mould.
Add some seeds on it if you want and let it rest for 4hrs or until it rises double in size.
The dough will rise double in size.
Bake it at 200°C for 40 mins in the preheated oven or till it gets brown crust or detached from the mould.
Once it is baked, take butter cube and spread it on bread for the soft crust.
